The Bill replaced the Election Commission (Conditions of Service of Election Commissioners and Transaction of Business) Act, 1991. The BJP government hurriedly drafted and passed the Bill in Parliament due to a recent Supreme Court judgment in Anoop Baranwal versus Union of India (2023)
